Viksdal Rosemaling with Cathy Castellanos
We are excited to have Cathy Castellanos teach for Nordic Canvas. Thanks to Cathy the Viksdal style is not lost to the ages. Cathy has studied in Norway with Marit Eldal who is the expert on this style. Marit’s mother, Alvhild, was instrumental in bringing the style back from obscurity.

Come join Cathy Castellanos painting her original Viksdal design filled with historical symbolism while exploring C strokes, S strokes and elongated Tear Drops. Symbolism incorporated in this design are Four Bladed Cross, Maria's Flower, Webbing, Twisted Tongues. Other symbolism and historical facts will be presented during class.
This class is for Advanced Beginners to Advanced level students. The design pictured is an intermediate level but can easily be simplified by omitting several parallel lines and decreasing the number of tear drops which will be discussed and demonstrated during class. Both pictures will be in the class packet along with interesting Viksdal facts and symbolism.

The project piece is painted on a 14" Basswood shallow bowl from Montzka Woodworking (651-464-5847) montzkawoodworking.com or any woodenware or surface of your choice of similar size.
Acrylic Background Paint: Red Earth Matte Flow Acrylic by JoSonja and JoSonja Clear Glaze Medium
Oil Paint: Yellow Ochre, Titanium White, Mars Black
Supplies: Linseed Oil (painting medium of your choice), Transfer material (carbonate of magnesia), Tracing paper, pencil, eraser, chalk for drawing, paper to doodle paint on
Brushes: Alf Bjercke #510 (size 4 and 2) or Script Liner 1 and 2
