Join Kim Garrett on a MASTER STUDY of Knut Hovden. He was one of the Rosemaling Masters of the early twentieth Century. He was often credited with keeping the art of rosemaling alive in the early twentieth century. He was one of the first rosemalers to teach at the folk art school in Sand, Rogaland, Norway. Under his influence rosemaling continued to flourish in the 1900’s.
Join Kim Garrett for an exploration into the colors and flowers he is known for in this online class. Kim will share Knut Hovden’s story and discuss several pieces of his work, focusing on his use of colors and several of his flowers. Then, we’ll sketch and paint a few of his flowers.
This class will be taught in oils but acrylic painters with experience in their medium are welcome.

Acrylic Background Paint
I’ll be demonstrating on Galaxy Blue and Red Earth by JoSonja but you can choose any background colors you like painted on posterboard or masonite
Brushes
#2, 4, & 6 filbert or shader (I use filberts) (Princeton Heritage or Velvet touch)
#1 or #2 script liner (Princeton)
#1 round or small teardrop brush
Other Supplies
Artist’s grade refined linseed oil
Brush cleaner (I use Mona Lis or Masterpiece brand)
Tracing paper
Palette paper
Transfer paper or carbonate of magnesia chalk (I use chalk)
Sandpaper (medium and fine grit)
Paper towel
