Finger Painted Ornaments

$34.00

When I start rosemaling, a little more than 40 years ago, in one of my first ever classes, we did finger painted flowers. I believe this was either my second or third class. I was in over my head, not with the finger smears, but with the linework to turn the smears into flowers. So, what I am sharing with you in this class is not new. In the 1990’s Eldrid Skjold Arntzen, VGM used this technique with her transparent Telemark. I will show you the bowl during the class. Recently, I took a class with Judith Kjenstad, VGM and we painted finger flowers on a Telemark bowl. Before you ask, no, I haven’t finished it, yet, but I will show you what is done thus far. It was this class with Judith that gave me the idea to share this project with you. In the past, I have done this technique with oil paint, but in this class I am going to be demonstrating it in acrylics, but you certainly can use oils. If you do use oils, please make sure that you either wear gloves or use non-toxic pigments.

This class is taught by Patti Goke, VGM.
This class is perfect for making some last minute gifts or decorations.

1:00 pm - 3:00 pm CENTRAL TIME

Colors don’t matter, nor the brands used. I will share with you the colors I used. I used these colors because they are what I have on hand, but use what colors you want. It really doesn’t matter, this is meant to be FUN!

WOODENWARE (We are NOT using a pattern, so you can use any piece of wood or cardboard that you want. I will post what I used, but you do NOT need to buy these, especially if you already have some ornaments or a small plate - 6” or smaller, you would rather use.)

Wooden ornament

PAINTS and MEDIUMS
GOLDEN Iridescent Gold Deep
GOLDEN Transparent Pyrrole Orange
GOLDEN Raw Sienna
JOSONJA Black Umber (I wanted something dark, but not pure black. A Carbon Black would be fine too. This is just a personal preference)
JOSONJA Green Oxide
JOSONJA Magic Mix (I used this so that the painted didn’t bleed into the wood as it does with water)
JOSONJA Storm Blue

BRUSHES
10/0 liner
#2 flat or filbert

OTHER SUPPLIES
Palette (a paper plate will do)
Paper Towels
Water

PRIOR TO CLASS:
Have your piece background with a light color of your choice. I used JoSonja Vellum to background. I sanded the piece and applied the background color. I didn’t use any other mediums such as a top coat of glazing medium, but you certainly can.

Other stuff:

If you wish to pay by check, send an email to Nordic Canvas and we will register you. Then send a check to:
